San Jose Adult Entertainment: Microsoft sues Funmobile over spim, phishing and porn scheme

Microsoft Corp. filed suit Thursday against Funmobile Ltd. of Hong Kong and its Foster City, Calif., subsidiary — alleging that they used a combination of phishing and instant-messaging spam to steal login information and direct people to adult entertainment sites and bogus social networks.
The suit alleges that Funmobile used instant-messaging spam, known as “spim,” to direct people to websites that deceived them into turning over their Windows Live Messenger login information and passwords. According to the Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) suit, Funmobile then used those logins to break into accounts and send more spim.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: The Morning Fix: Google goes after Microsoft; moguls debate paid …

Guess Google took launch of Bing a little personal. Google is unveiling its own operating system, Chrome OS, to compete with Microsoft Windows. The New York Times
broke the news, that Google quickly confirmed. The move will certainly
make Google one of the big topics at the Allen & Co. conference
where CEO Eric Schmidt and founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are
expected.
Mogul debate. Getting people to pay for online content will be the hot topic at this year’s Allen & Co. conference, says the Los Angeles Times.
Give Liz Lemon a raise. Reruns of NBC’s “30 Rock” have been sold to Viacom’s Comedy Central and Tribune’s superstation WGN at a combined price tag of $800,000 per-episode, says Variety.
Reality check. The Hollywood Reporter sits down with Mark Burnett, the man behind “Survivor” and “The Apprentice” to get his thoughts on the genre and where it’s headed.
Is less plot even possible? The adult entertainment industry apparently is getting further away from plot in its content in reaction to how the Internet is changing how people consume content, reports The New York Times.

San Jose Escorts: San Ramon will require hotels to provide information about their …

SAN RAMON — Hotels and motels in this city will be required to record personal information about their guests and keep it on file for police.
The San Ramon City Council unanimously passed an ordinance Tuesday night that will require establishments that rent rooms to overnight guests to keep a register of information available to investigators — including the visitors’ true names, addresses, vehicle descriptions, license-plate numbers and their hotel room numbers. Police are recommending that the information be kept on file for at least a year.
Large hotels such as the San Ramon Marriott, which hosts large events, would be exempt from keeping track of vehicle registration, said San Ramon Police Chief Scott Holder.
Holder said Wednesday there were 24 arrests at or near the city’s six hotels and motels in the first half of the year. The crimes range from prostitution to stolen property to drug-related violations.

San Jose Escorts: Alamo trips were business, attorney says

Alamo, the 74-year-old leader of a multistate ministry with headquarters in Fouke, is charged in U.S. District Court in Texarkana with five counts of transporting underage girls across state lines for sex in violation of the federal Mann Act. The prosecution and defense gave their opening statements Tuesday afternoon after spending the morning selecting the 12 jurors who will decide Alamo’s fate.
In his opening statement, assistant U.S. attorney Clay Fowlkes told jurors that the victims, who he indicated now range in age from 17 to about 30, will testify that Alamo took them as wives at ages as young as 8 and repeatedly sexually assaulted them.
“Each one of these girls lived a life that was completely controlled by the defendant,” Fowlkes said. “Each one of them lived a life that was completely ruined by the defendant’s criminal conduct.”
A federal offense because of the interstate element, the Mann Act makes it a crime to take a girl under age 18 across state lines “with intent that the individual engage in prostitution, or in any sexual activity for which any person can be charged with a criminal offense.”

San Jose Escorts: San Ramon hotels may be asked to get guests’ identification

In a report to the City Council, San Ramon Police Chief Scott Holder states that although most people staying in hotels are there for legitimate reasons, in the past year police have arrested hotel occupants for charges including prostitution, stolen property, fugitive warrants, drug violations, counterfeiting and stolen vehicles. An informant told police many characters choose to stay in San Ramon because they do not have to provide identification to rent a room, and the city doesn’t have any laws requiring such establishments to reveal guests’ names. Several East Bay cities, including Concord, Livermore, Richmond and Union City, have similar ordinances in place. Pleasanton does not have such an ordinance, according to police. In his report, Holder states that having guest information readily available makes it easier to investigate crimes.
