Police resumed their search Monday for possible links to unsolved crimes at the home of the Northern California sex offender charged with kidnapping a little girl and hiding her in his backyard for 18 years.
Three agencies in the San Francisco Bay area were looking through Phillip Garrido’s property in Antioch for the fourth day, seeking evidence that might help solve cold cases.
Garrido and his wife, Nancy, were charged last week in the abduction, rape and imprisonment of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was 11 when she was taken outside her home in South Lake Tahoe. They have pleaded not guilty to 29 counts.
Antioch and Contra Costa County authorities have not provided many details about what they are seeking at the property.
Police in the nearby city of Pittsburg, however, have said they are investigating whether Garrido, 58, was involved in the murders of prostitutes in the 1990s.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: CONTRA COSTA CO.: POLICE, FBI STILL S…

Phillip Garrido, 58, and his wife Nancy Garrido, 55, have been
charged with 29 felonies in connection with the alleged kidnapping, rape and
false imprisonment of Dugard, who was 11 years old when she was snatched from
in front of her South Lake Tahoe home on the morning of June 10, 1991.
Dugard allegedly lived in a complex of hidden sheds and tents in
the backyard of the Garridos’ home at 1554 Walnut Ave. in a semi-rural,
unincorporated neighborhood just outside of Antioch.
While living there, Dugard allegedly gave birth to two children
fathered by Phillip Garrido. The children, both girls, are now 11 and 15
years old.
Phillip and Nancy Garrido pleaded not guilty to the charges during
an arraignment in El Dorado County Superior Court in Placerville on Friday,
according to the district attorney’s office.
Meanwhile, local law enforcement agencies began searching the
Garridos’ property Friday for evidence that could link Phillip Garrido to a
series of unsolved murders of prostitutes in Pittsburg and Bay Point the
1990s, Contra Costa County sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Terry said.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Turmoil for Jaycee Dugard’s children …

He said the revelations about their abusive father had caused turmoil for Starlet and Angel. “These girls are so fragile. They are upset about this because that’s their father and he’s in jail.” Garrido, 58, and his wife Nancy, 54, have pleaded not guilty to 29 counts including kidnapping, imprisonment and rape. A team of about 20 police officers continued today to scour over their home and its backyard.
Cadaver dogs, trained in sniffing out corpses, were also brought in to search the house next door where until 2006 Garrido used to act as caretaker. It is understood that the search, which has been extended for an extra day, relates to suspicions that Garrido might also have been involved in the 1990s murders in outlying areas of eight prostitutes and a teenaged girl.

San Jose Escorts: Search Inside Compound Where Dugard Kept

The pictures show small chests of drawers and plastic storage containers inside a drooping tent. One large tent with rugs on the ground contains a bed piled high with more boxes and strewn with clothes.
A wicker basket and a small clothes rack imply some order, but many of the pictures show clothes, boxes and other detritus strewn about.
And in the midst of the mess, a young girl’s touch: An “Aladdin” ironing board, a hair brush, cosmetics.
The Garridos were arrested last Wednesday for allegedly abducting Dugard in 1991. They pleaded not guilty Friday to a total of 29 counts, including forcible abduction, rape and false imprisonment.
As police on Monday continued their search of the home and property at 1554 Walnut Avenue, they have not provided many details about what they are seeking. But police in nearby Pittsburg have said they are investigating whether Phillip Garrido was involved in the murders of prostitutes.

San Jose Escorts: Police scour scene of kidnap case

ANTIOCH, Calif. – Police on Saturday searched the home and property of a California couple charged with kidnapping a little girl 18 years ago, looking for evidence linking them to other open cases in the area, including the unsolved murders of prostitutes.
Police also wrapped yellow crime scene tape around the property next door to the residence of Nancy and Phillip Garrido, who were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of abducting Jaycee Lee Dugard. The authorities called it a crime scene but declined to elaborate.
Neighbors identified the next-door house as belonging to Damon Robinson, who has lived there for more than three years. Robinson’s then-girlfriend in 2006 called police after she saw tents and children in the backyard. The responding officer failed to discover the encampment where authorities say Dugard was kept captive.

Police in Pittsburg are investigating whether Phillip Garrido, whose home is in nearby Antioch, is linked to several unsolved murders of prostitutes in the early 1990s. Antioch police are also looking into unsolved cases but declined further details.

Photographs of the secret compound appeared in British newspapers over the weekend showing a squalid network of living quarters strewn with junk.
Meanwhile, scores of police with sniffer dogs, combed Garrido’s backyard and a neighbor’s property on Sunday.
“I will confirm they are cadaver dogs. We’ll have them go through the backyard,” Jimmy Lee, the Contra Costa sheriff, told reporters.
“Too early to say what we’re looking for,” he said. “Anything that may be linked to some open cases that we have. At this point, we’re going thoroughly through both backyards. It’s just too early to say what we might come up with.”
Police are looking into links between Garrido and a series of prostitute killings in the 1990s, as other bodies had been found close to where he worked, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
