Most of us don’t like to be nosy neighbors, and we certainly don’t like to have them, but they have their place.
It’s unfortunate that neighbors and customers of Phillip Craig Garrido weren’t a little nosier when it cam to his “daughter,” who turned out to be Jaycee Lee Dugard, who he kidnapped 18 years ago and with whom he had two children.
Authorities have apologized for missing the clues — including neighbors’ warnings — that something was amiss with Garrido, a convicted sex offender, the woman he called his daughter and their two daughters, 11 and 15.
Now he and his wife, Nancy Garrido, face 29 charges, including kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment, and authorities are looking into the murders of prostitutes in the 1990s.

But Mr Daughdrill says he believes Ms Dugard may have been coerced by Garrido.

Cheyvonne Molina did business with Garrido for a decade and met Jaycee’s two daughters at a “Sweet 16″ party for her daughter.
She said: “They were just your regular 15-year-old, your average 11-year-old.”

Mrs Molina also believed the authorities missed chances to catch Garrido much earlier.
She said: “He wasn’t in hiding and if they had just done their job they would have found out a lot sooner.”
Police in two cities are investigating whether Garrido may be linked to several unsolved murders of prostitutes in the 1990s.

Cops Seal Off House Next Door to Rapist
POLICE are searching the property next door to where Jaycee Lee Dugard was held captive.
Neighbours say rapist Phillip Garrido once served as caretaker at the house.
Garrido and his wife are charged with kidnapping Jaycee when she was 11.
Garrido is also being linked to a series of unsolved murders. Police want to quiz him about the deaths of a 15-year-old schoolgirl and three prostitutes.
All four were found strangled and stabbed in Pittsburg, California, where Garrido used to work.
Yesterday, investigators armed with rakes, shovels and chainsaws continued combing Garrido’s home in nearby Antioch.
Police had cordoned off the second property with crime-scene tape.
Damon Robinson, who lives there now, said Garrido served as caretaker before he moved in three years ago.

Garrido and his wife have pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping and rape of Jaycee Lee Dugard . As an 11-year-old, Dugard was snatched from a South Lake Tahoe bus stop. Now 29, she was reunited with her family last week.
Yesterday, officers combed Garrido’s backyard, where Dugard and her two daughters, allegedly fathered by Garrido, were said to have lived in a wooded compound of tents and sheds. Investigators also used cadaver dogs and searched an adjoining property where neighbors say Garrido served as caretaker for a time.
Police in the nearby city of Pittsburg say they are investigating whether Garrido may have been involved in the slayings of several prostitutes in the 1990s. Meanwhile, police in Antioch say they, too, are looking into a number of unsolved cases.
