RALPH BAILEY: Martin Luther King’s courage remains unmatched

It is said that prostitutes and old buildings gain respectability after a period of time but it seems living legends become posthumous targets of ridicule and scrutiny and no one’s character has suffered more than that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., arguably the most courageous revolutionary this republic has ever seen.
While some of my radio brethren question King’s achievements, insisting we need no national holiday for the fallen minister, King’s undying spirit, commitment to nonviolence and unwavering drive for equal rights in the face of certain assassination cannot be surpassed.
King catapulted to national prominence in the mid-1950s after becoming president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, a group of ministers, church goers and civil rights seekers that cooked up the Rosa Parks-spurred Montgomery Bus Boycott.

San Jose Escorts: PEOPLE v. RICH, Inc.

Nevertheless, Rich relies on People v. Varona (1983) 143 Cal.App.3d 566 (Varona), where a defendant claimed consent against a rape charge, and the prosecutor exploited a ruling excluding evidence of a victim’s prostitution conviction, exploitation that was held to be misconduct that compounded error in the ruling itself. (Id. at pp. 569-570.) The court reasoned: “We agree that, in a proper case, a prosecutor may argue to a jury that a defendant has not brought forth evidence to corroborate an essential part of his defensive story. But we know of no case where such argument is permissible except where a defendant might reasonably be expected to produce such corroboration. Here the prosecutor not only argued the `lack’ of evidence where the defense was ready and willing to produce it, but he compounded that tactic by actually arguing that the woman was not a prostitute although he had seen the official records and knew that he was arguing a falsehood.” (Id. at p. 570.)

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Can Senate Democrats Keep Edge in 2010?

… Colorado. A Rasmussen Reports poll last month showed former lieutenant governor Jane Norton, a Republican, beating rookie Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, 46%-37%. Bennet was appointed to the Senate last year when Ken Salazar became Interior secretary.
– Pennsylvania. Sen. Arlen Specter, who left the Republican Party last year, faces a primary challenge from Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa. Meanwhile, polls show Republican Pat Toomey and Specter in a tight general election matchup.
The Republicans have some trouble spots of their own. In Kentucky, Missouri, New Hampshire and Ohio, the retirements of Republican incumbents leave the GOP with open seats to defend in battleground states.
Other Republican seats to watch include Louisiana, where Sen. David Vitter will be facing the voters for the first time since admitting that he used call girl services, and Florida, where Mel Martinez resigned his seat last year.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Chinese men busy bookmarking all the ‘good stuff’

Chinese users
One Chinese Google user told us, “I’m not even sure what I searched for to get here, ‘blonde nymphomaniacs’ I think, but I do know that once Google goes I’ll never, ever find this site ever again.”
“So Tianamen Square doesn’t show up in my search results?  Who cares?  The real issue here is how will I get my fresh supply of nubile western woman with no gag reflexes?”
“We’ve been told by the Government that China is no place for a portal to international filth, even the really good stuff.”
“Good Communist adult entertainment is a stern looking middle-aged woman shouting at you through a computer monitor for hours upon hours, and until Google came along, this is what we used to achieve our quite disappointing erections.”

HARTFORD, CT (AP) – Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says he decided to seek the U.S. Senate seat of fellow Democrat Chris Dodd so he could fight against scams and special interests.
Blumenthal announced his decision to run Wednesday at Democratic headquarters in Hartford, just hours after Dodd announced that he would not be seeking a sixth term in November.
Dodd has been dogged by lagging poll numbers for months.
Blumenthal has been Connecticut’s attorney general since 1990. He has gained a national profile by challenging Big Tobacco and its alleged marketing to children and the Web site Craigslist and its erotic ads that he said promote prostitution.
Recent polls show the 63-year-old Blumenthal is one of the most popular politicians in Connecticut.

San Jose Massage Parlors: Mount Prospect massage parlor owner extorted thousands from female worker …

The owner of a suburban massage parlor who allegedly had some female employees get tattoos with his birth date was arrested Wednesday on charges he extorted thousands of dollars from one worker.
Alex “Daddy” Campbell, of Glenview, will remain in custody until a detention hearing Friday. The criminal complaint charged that he forced the employee to pay $16,000 to avoid working seven days a week. The woman, a foreign national, paid him an additional $13,000 to ostensibly assist her with her Immigration status, authorities said.
Campbell, who owns the Day and Night Spa in Mount Prospect, also forced the employee to engage in sex with him and threatened to publicize video he took of her having sex with another woman, authorities said.
Many of the women working at the massage parlor were given horseshoe tattoos on their necks, and some had the number “917″ tattooed on them in reference to Campbell’s Sept. 17 birthday, according to the charges.

San Jose Escorts: San Carlos’ Grocott jumps into San Mateo County supervisor race

Horsley, who could not be reached Wednesday for comment, had $121,000 in his campaign war chest as of June 30, 2009, by far the most cash of any of the candidates.
Fundraising documents also show he has received broad financial support from officials throughout the county, including Controller Tom Huening, six of seven Redwood City council members and the unions representing plumbers, steamfitters and firefighters.
Stogner’s campaign is based on one issue — seeking the resignation of Sheriff Greg Munks.
Stogner, a San Carlos resident, has long called for Munks to step down after the sheriff was caught inside a Las Vegas brothel during a police raid in April 2007.
Munks was never charged with a crime. He said he did not break the law and contended that he believed the brothel was a legitimate business. Munks has refused to publicly answer questions about the incident.
