San Jose Adult Entertainment: Illegal immigrants plan to leave over Ariz. law

… We want to drive day labor away,” says Republican Rep. John Kavanagh, one of the law’s sponsors.
An estimated 100,000 illegal immigrants have left Arizona in the past two years as it cracked down on illegal immigration and its economy was especially hard hit by the Great Recession. A Department of Homeland Security report on illegal immigrants estimates Arizona’s illegal immigrant population peaked in 2008 at 560,000, and a year later dipped to 460,000.
The law’s supporters hope the departure of illegal immigrants will help dismantle part of the underground economy here and create jobs for thousands of legal residents in a state with a 9.6 percent unemployment rate.
Kavanagh says day labor is generally off the books, and that deprives the state of much-needed tax dollars. “We’ll never eliminate it, just like laws against street prostitution,” he says. “But we can greatly reduce the prevalence.”

San Jose Adult Entertainment: After the fall: Vietnamese remember ‘Black April’ 35 years later

All she knew about the Viet Cong was based on myths the government had spread. “We thought the Communists were just like animals, or vampires with long teeth,” said Thu, now 52. “But when they drove past on their tanks the day the city fell, they just looked so young, like boys.”
When the old currency collapsed, a system of barter sprang up in Saigon at “the biggest flea markets in the world.” To escape on a trawler required payment in the kind of gold bars Pham’s mother had sewed into her clothes. After fleeing to what was now called Ho Chi Minh City, she lived among the prostitutes of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam until she saved enough gold to escape in 1979. She said half the people who tried to escape after the war didn’t survive.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Oakland Raiders beef up at fullback, sign former Redskin Rock…

Dolphins: Owner Stephen Ross will “take appropriate actions if necessary” against general manager Jeff Ireland for asking former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant whether his mother was ever a prostitute. Ross said he’ll look into the matter personally. Ireland posed the question during a predraft interview with Bryant. “My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player I’m considering drafting,” Ireland said. “I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I meant no disrespect and apologized to him. I appreciate his acceptance of that apology.” Bryant’s background received scrutiny from teams before the draft. He was taken by Dallas with the 24th pick.
“My mom is not a prostitute,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. “I got mad — really mad — but I didn’t show it.” NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith also lashed out at Ireland’s line of questioning.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Freedom OR Security *** Which is MORE important to YOU? *** And Why.

Note that freedom involves among many other things being responsible for one’s actions. It doesn’t mean one can ignore the effects of one’s behavior. It also means being independent of any particular person or institution. If one is dependent on an insurance company or a husband or the government, one cannot be secure. That person or group may fail us.
There are also false freedoms. (My own concept but I don’t know if it is unique to me.) Some freedoms cease to exist if exercised. For example, if you are free to drive your care at any speed in any lane ignoring other cars, intersections and such then no one is free to drive. It would simply be too dangerous. If everyone is free to carry loaded weapons at any time courtrooms would be quite dangerous because the police could not disarm their prisoners. If people are free to spend their money buying anything they want we must live with organized crime, prostitution, drug addiction, fraud and so forth.

San Jose Escorts: Rarely Performed "Rondine" Stirs the Soul

Under Rohrbaugh’s direction the orchestra expertly handled Puccini’s transitions from solo highlights to grand orchestral swells; from gorgeous romantic melodies to colorfully dissonant transitions. The instrumentalists played with plenty of energy in this Sunday afternoon concert.
Soprano Jasmina Halimic in the role of Magda dominated the stage thanks to a number of factors. Jose Maria Condemi’s stage direction channeled the entire ensemble’s visual energy towards the alluring courtesan’s beautiful figure. The diva basked in this energy and radiated it outward again with an attractive stage presence. The beautiful lines that Puccini bestowed upon this role didn’t hurt either. But the main reason for her dominance was the smoothly striking amplitude of her voice—easily the most powerful in the Sunday matinée cast—though this power sometimes came at the expense of pitch accuracy and vocal control.

San Jose Escorts: Review: 2nd-tier Puccini, 1st-rate treatment

For a company like Opera San Jose – not too big, not too small – Puccini’s “La Rondine” may be just the ticket. It provides a welcome break from the familiar repertoire that forms the bulk of the company’s offerings, without pushing too far into the wilds of the unknown.
The charming and committed production that opened Saturday night at the California Theatre made that case with straightforward eloquence. Though not as consistently well sung as one might wish, the first performance was a largely captivating affair, and offered a chance to hear a bit of the Puccini catalog that is not performed as often as, say, “Madama Butterfly” or “Tosca.”
To describe “La Rondine” (”The Swallow”) as the love child of “La Traviata” and “Die Fledermaus” sums the piece up without omitting anything of substance. In the first and third acts, Magda, the title character – Puccini’s remake of Verdi’s courtesan Violetta – finds and loses true love. The central act takes us to a Parisian nightclub, where Magda’s maid is also in attendance wearing Madame’s borrowed finery.

San Jose Escorts: Alleged pimp pleads no contest, taken into custody

He pleaded no contest to the charge of attempted felony pimping related to an incident in Morgan Hill in which he employed a 17-year-old girl as a prostitute. Police say the victim told them that he took all the money she earned from prostitution, and in return he provided her with items such as clothes.

Everly was arrested outside a Morgan Hill hotel Sept. 10, 2009. Morgan Hill Police Special Operations officers were conducting a prostitution sting by responding to Internet advertisements for illicit sexual services. Throughout the evening, police arranged a number of meetings with suspected prostitutes at the hotel, and a total of eight women were arrested in different incidents.

When she left the room, other MHPD officers arrested her in the hotel’s hallway on suspicion of prostitution. Police did not release her name because she is a juvenile.

San Jose Strip Clubs: Former Duke lacrosse player finds redemption

Updated Apr 25, 2010 3:38 PM ET
Collin Finnerty, a member of the Duke University lacrosse team falsely accused of raping a black stripper during a house party in 2006, overcame the controversy to become a successful senior at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., the New York Post reported Sunday.
The Long Island native, then a sophomore, was hit with criminal charges, had to drop out of school, endured mudslinging from a publicity-hungry prosecutor and became the focal point of a national debate about racism and privilege at the prestigious university.
But four years and one tossed case later, Finnerty is still cradling his lacrosse stick — co-captaining Loyola College’s nationally ranked team.
“They welcomed me with open arms, despite the fact that the case was still going on,” Finnerty said of his decision to attend Loyola.
