San Jose Escorts: Santa Clara Police Chief Steve Lodge announces retirement

In his e-mail to the council, Lodge recounted the day he was hired, July 23, 1980, by then-Chief Manny Ferguson, who gave “a starry-eyed 22-year-old who was about to graduate from the police academy a shot at the young man’s dream job” as a beat cop “chasing bad guys.” Lodge said he never dreamed he’d be the police chief.
Lodge rose through the ranks, working as a patrol division watch commander, and was a co-founder of the Citizens’ Police Academy. He is also a graduate of San Jose State University, with bachelor degrees in the administration of justice and business management.
His e-mail notes he has hired or promoted 107 out of the city’s 135 sworn officers.
Lodge is also credited by his own staff for being open and forthright. However, recently he became embroiled in a controversy for providing service for free escort service for the San Francisco 49ers team bus on trips to the airport and also to a handful of preseason games in Oakland.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Stanford law students appeal three-strike cases

Taylor’s legal counsel has told the Court of Appeal their client has an unblemished prison disciplinary record and is in close contact with his wife and teen daughter. They said Taylor plans to move to Bakersfield, if freed, to be near family and seek a job.
They point out that Taylor made all of his court appearances while free on $10,000 bail even though he was facing such a harsh sentence. Broadman asked Taylor at his sentencing why he didn’t flee.
“I came back because I had faith in the system,” Taylor told the judge. “I’m not a person that’s gonna run from the problem that I created.”
The prosecutor is joining Boardman, who is now a mediator in Visalia, in supporting a reduced prison sentence.
The appeal contends that Taylor’s public defender at trial failed to tell Broadman about Taylor’s horrific upbringing that included sexual abuse, a prostitute mother and early drug use. And Broadman says that, had he known of Taylor’s past, he would have doled out a more lenient sentence.

San Jose Escorts: Sunnyvale City Council votes to ban medical marijuana dispensaries

… A ban doesn’t work when you don’t provide alternatives,” Spitaleri said. “To not explore how this can work and how we can regulate it is a shame.”
The planning commission discussed the issue at its Nov. 22 meeting, recommending the city council direct staff to write up a draft ordinance to allow medical marijuana dispensaries. Had the council
followed the planning commission’s recommendation, a draft ordinance would have been presented for discussion at a January meeting.
Of the more than 40 public speakers at the meeting, the vast majority supported a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.
“A well-crafted ordinance is one thing, but the reality of the regulation and safety of these business is another,” resident Mei-Ling Stefan said.
Resident Carol Eyring, who brought her daughter, Kaylene, to the podium, added, “Do not prostitute our city and our children for the price of taxes from medical marijuana dispensaries. Just say no to drugs.”

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Meet the American Hacker Behind Wikileaks

Appelbaum spends much of each year leading Tor training sessions around the world, often conducted in secrecy to protect activists whose lives are in danger. Some, like the sex-worker advocates from Southeast Asia he tutored, had limited knowledge of computers. Others, like a group of students Appelbaum trained at a seminar in Qatar, are highly sophisticated: One worked on the government’s censorship network, another works for a national oil company, and a third created an Al-Jazeera message board that allows citizens to post comments anonymously. In Mauritania, the country’s military regime was forced to abandon its efforts to censor the Internet after a dissident named Nasser Weddady wrote a guide to Tor in Arabic and distributed it to opposition groups. “Tor rendered the government’s efforts completely futile,” Weddady says. “They simply didn’t have the know-how to counter that move.”

MARTINEZ — A woman charged with killing her boyfriend during what authorities said was a domestic argument pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday, prosecutors said.
Akira Tajah Jackson, 24, of Oakland, is suspected of fatally stabbing Alan David Gray, 56, at his Santa Rita Drive home in Walnut Creek the morning of Nov. 4. Investigators said the two had been dating for about a year and a half after meeting at a San Francisco nightclub where Jackson had been working as a stripper.
Jackson, born David Gavin, was also a program coordinator and counselor for a San Francisco-based youth group aimed at mentoring transgender women.
Police say the two were arguing about the direction of their relationship when she stabbed him with a kitchen knife while officers were responding to a call about the argument.

San Jose Adult Entertainment: Op-Ed: Deflating the Latex Bubble

… There may be a basis in the case of some individuals, as perhaps when a male prostitute uses a condom, where this can be a first step in the direction of a moralization, a first assumption of responsibility, on the way toward recovering an awareness that not everything is allowed and that one cannot do whatever one wants. But it is not really the way to deal with the evil of HIV infection. That can really lie only in a humanization of sexuality.”

So what exactly is the truth? According to George Weigel, foreword contributor to Pope Benedict XVI’s latest book, “Light of the World,” the pope did not say that “condom use can be justified in some cases to help stop the spread of AIDS,” as The New York Times reported. The Holy Father meant to say that the use of a condom by a male prostitute infected with AIDS is simply a step toward recognizing the overall immorality of disordered sex, Sacred Hear …
