San Jose Escorts: Palestinian authorities detain woman for Facebook post, Canada

In other recent cases, newspaper reporter Yousef al-Shayeb has been held for eight days for allegedly defaming public officials. Al-Shayeb was expected to be released Monday after a court ordered him freed on $8,000 bail after a public outcry.
Two other reporters were interrogated last week, one for his Facebook posts and the other over a story he was researching.
A Palestinian spokesman said he could not comment on the cases because the judiciary was independent of the government.
Defaming the president and other high-level officials is a crime in the Palestinian Authority.
“These expressions go beyond freedom of expression,” said public prosecutor Ahmed al-Mughani.
She is also accused of calling Abbas a “traitor” and saying he partied with prostitutes on the graves of slain Palestinians. Abdeen said Abdul-Khaleq denied she wrote those things.

San Jose Escorts: Mercury News editorial: San Jose’s chief had to make the call on M8trix

That stark, black-and-gray, eight-story fortress newly risen next to Highway 101 near Mineta San Jose International Airport is the M8trix casino, the old Garden City’s expanded successor. But M8trix won’t be opening this week as advertised because police Chief Chris Moore says he hasn’t received all the information he needs to sign off on the permit. So M8trix owners are suing the city.
A better use of their money might be expediting the information the city needs to get the place permitted, but that’s the operators’ call. Moore must make sure the casino meets complex city and state requirements, and he needs to be meticulous — particularly since the city’s other cardroom, Bay 101, has been carefully playing
by the rules.
The licensing laws are detailed for a reason. While this type of gambling is legal, the potential for corruption, money laundering, prostitution and other problems is greater with a casino than most other legal businesses. There are historical reasons for strict regulation.

Police have arrested a Livermore man they suspect of raping at least three prostitutes he solicited on the Internet and are investigating whether he attacked other victims.
Andrez Rodriguez, 34, was arrested March 16 and arraigned March 20. He is accused of luring three prostitutes to the 2200 block of Portola Avenue on separate instances, threatening them, raping them and stealing their identification and mobile phones after the attacks, Livermore police Officer Steve Goard said.
Physical evidence linked Rodriguez to the three attacks, Goard said.
The first attack occurred Dec. 17, but the victim was reluctant to cooperate with police. The second attack happened Jan. 13. At that point officers noticed
a pattern, re-interviewed the initial victim and began their investigation, Goard said.

San Jose Escorts: Our public safety hangs in the balance

If a traffic accident occurs that is blocking a major street, police must be deployed and remain on site until the street is cleared. If an injury occurs due to an accident, the officer must conduct a thorough investigation before he can leave. Whenever a traffic accident with an injury occurs, it takes at least two police officers off patrol. Whenever a drunk driver, or any other driver is involved in an accident where criminal charges might be filed, there also has to be one officer whose sole responsibility is to conduct the investigation.
One of our city council members incorrectly identified the number of detectives in our department as 14; actually there are eight. Four of them perform state mandated functions; they investigate all homicides, rapes, child abuse, child molestations and robberies. The other four are focused upon crime suppression, narcotics/prostitution activities at business locations and motels, narcotics activities, trafficking, sales, gang suppression and undercover work. A few days ago there was a “drug deal/gunfire” in front of Jerry’s Market. The gunman was captured with hours, in another city, by one of our detectives.

Rice, an author, Hoover Institution fellow, political science professor at Stanford University and founder of her own consulting firm, was one of three speakers at the 18th annual event, held at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara.
San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed gave a brief talk, and Betty Ann Boeving, Stanford women’s basketball announcer and executive director of the Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition, addressed the group.
Boeving discussed the seldom noticed but rising crime of human trafficking. She noted 27 million “slaves” in the Bay Area and around the world, many of them children used for labor, prostitution and as young soldiers.
