San Jose Escorts: Authorities identify two Santa Cruz men slain in Lower Ocean shooting

By frequently calling police, neighbors pushed out heroin-dealing gang members several years ago after a triple homicide on Bixby Street. Although there continues to be drug dealing and prostitution, Lamkin said the neighborhood has otherwise improved a lot.
“I just hope this isn’t the beginning of another series of violence, because I love living in my neighborhood,” Lamkin said. “We just want to raise our children there and feel safe.”
Jeff Klakovich, a 21-year-old environmental studies student at UC Santa Cruz who has lived across the street for 18 months, said “It’s pretty lively over there.” But he said he never anticipated such violence in the area, including the Jan. 1 shooting death of a 7-Eleven clerk by an ex-boyfriend.

Klakovich said he witnessed a recent disturbance at the apartments involving a man yelling at two others, who quickly fled in a vehicle. He also said he often sees prostitutes getting in and out of vehicles on Barson Street but has never called police because what he’s seen didn’t seem violent.
