SANTA CRUZ — A Santa Cruz woman will spend more than five years in state prison for giving drugs to her teenage relative, a judge ruled Wednesday.
Stephanie Kelly, 29, pleaded guilty to giving methamphetamine to a 14-year-old girl and two felony counts of child endangerment. Judge Robert Atack sentenced Kelly to five years, eight months in prison, according to the D.A.’s Office.
But the case is far more complex than sharing meth with the teen.
Kelly is “what can be termed a freelance sex worker,” said prosecutor Andrew Isaac.
The investigation began in the fall when allegations surfaced that Kelly had involved the teenage girl in prostitution. Those charges couldn’t be proved.
“We don’t know what happened with the girl,” Isaac said. “None of the stories reconcile.”
